Poisson Consulting Ltd. is a Canadian consulting company that specializes in population ecology, computational biology and the interpretation of statistical models for management.


Since its inception in 2007, Poisson Consulting's scientists have been contracted by governmental, industrial and conservation-based clients in North America and Europe to design field programs, perform analyses, develop software, and provide independent scientific review and advice.


Poisson Consulting's core research team consists of Dr. Joe Thorley, Dr. Robyn Irvine and Dr. Chris Muir.


Among them Poisson Consulting's scientists have published over 40 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Science, American Naturalist, Evolution, River Research and Applications, Journal of Animal Ecology and Bioinformatics.

What's in a name?

The company name reflects its origins in fish population ecology as well as Canada's Anglo-French heritage: Poisson is both the French word for fish and the name of a statistical distribution of fundamental importance in population ecology.
